Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919, Impressionism)

Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Pierre-Auguste Renoir is a French artist who was a leading painter in the development of the Impressionist style. As a celebrator of beauty and especially feminine sensuality, it has been said that "Renoir is the final representative of a tradition which runs directly from Rubens to Watteau."

Renoir is an expert at portraying characters. He is famous for depicting beautiful ladies and children. Renoir is recognized as one of the three artists who are the best at portraying women in Western art history. Different from Edgar Degas , who is a pessimist painting beautiful Ballet dancers, Renoir is an optimist who praises and chants for the pretty images of ladies.

Most of Renoir's art works show the leisure lives and entertainment of the Middle class. These works typically show the relaxing holiday atmosphere and delighted mood.
